IMF releases $18.4 million loan to Mali

imfThe International Monetary Fund (IMF) has released $18.4 million to Mali under its Rapid Credit Facility, a statement issued in Abidjan on Monday has said.

According to the statement, the amount was approved by its Executive Board.

IMF Mission Chief in Mali, Christian Josz, also briefed newsmen on the disbursement to assist the crisis-ridden country.

Mali is currently involved in a war against terrorists to win back the Northern part of the country which was annexed since March 2012.

French troops are leading a coalition of military contingents from ECOWAS member-states to flush out the invading terrorists.
African leaders had, however, called on the UN, U.S and Europe to lend financial support to the war.

Egypt: Thousands March to Defy Curfew in Suez

Suez_canal_1981Around 3,000 protesters in Suez organised on Monday night a protest to march from al-Arba’een Square to al-Geish Street to demand ending the 30-day curfew President Mohamed Mursi has imposed on three Suez Canal cities.

Mursi on Sunday declared a state of emergency on Port Said, Suez, and Ismailia for 30-days.

Army forces deployed their troops in these cities.

Prime Minister Hisham Kandil’s cabinet earlier today approved a draft law that gives the military the authority to arrest citizens.

Protesters waved the flags of Egypt and Suez and chanted slogans that call for toppling Mursi and the Muslim Brotherhood, an Aswat Masriya witness said.

The protesters said they will not stop demonstrating until “the regime is overthrown”, the witness added.

“The army will not impose a curfew; the people of Suez will impose a curfew on themselves if they are in danger so that army forces may arrest the outlaws,” Major General Osama Askar, leader of the third field army, stated.
